The Genius G-PEN F610 is a decent tablet.
Large area surface, good for larger monitors.
light, nice surface but can scratch a little too easy.
The programable buttons are not that great as you need the pen to press them. If the tablet had actual buttons you could press them (like for ALT or CTR keys) and keep on working and save lots of time but you can't do that with this tablet.
The tablet is less sensitive than the Bamboo or Graphite line of tablets and don't even think to compares it to an Intuos. The pen feels cheap and doesn't come with an eraser. You have to put too much preasure to draw making it hard to draw soft thin lines.
So where does this tablet stand? It is an inexpensive alternative for a true begginer. It worked on several Windows XP computers with no issues. Drivers were decent, easy to install. Made it worked with Artrage, Photoshop and Painter.
I find the tablet an excellent entry level tablet for the money. If you are a total beginner and never had a tablet before this is not a bad start. I found the tablet better for image edeting (Photoshop) than for painting or drawing. If you have used other tablets or have very high expectations this tablet will only frustrate you.
The software is a little weak, only Ulead Photoimpact 12 LE but is better than nothing. Get the free version of Artrage and you will get more from this tablet.
Compared to what you will pay for other tablets this tablet is a good deal.
Update: The price has gone down to levels where I would give this tablet 4 stars. It is a real bargain now in Amazon. The upgrade from painting with a mouse to this tablet is huge and at this price it's just amazing.
On the short cut keys issue I would like to explain that you can't click on a shortcut keys AND move the pen as the keys are not touch sensitive, only pen sensitive. So I can't assign a key to Pan and then use the pen to move around. This is the real weakness of no having real, seperate shortcut keys.
Another small issue is that it has a small lag until the tablet recognizes the pen. Once that goes away it works great.
I have also tested this tablet with Vista and I think it works even better than in XP. Vista is more tablet aware and I think you will get more if you have Vista compared to XP.
