(More customer reviews)This is one of the primary cases you will see at Best Buy, if you choose to buy this in the store. There are several issues with this case that may not be initially evident, even when you inspect the case in person.
I've had this case for three months and I purchased this case due to its protection and the ability to set my iPad up as a stand for typing and video watching. I'll list the pros and cons before concluding.
Pros -
1- Protection - protects the iPad better than most cases I have seen. It has a supple interior that will not scratch the screen and the cover is cushioned to protect the iPad well.
2- Works as a stand - It only has 2 options for viewing, but the two are well chosen (one for typing, one for video watching.)
3- Sturdy as a stand - I have never had the iPad collapse due to the stand's failure. Two trenches are well built to support the folding into a stand. Very nice design.
4- Comfort - The cushioned interior makes holding the iPad during reading comfortable.
5- Secures iPad - My iPad has never hinted at falling out of this case.
Cons -
1- External Durability - The case "leather" has begun to wear through already.
2- Internal Durability - The cushioned interior is great for comfort, but it soaks up dirt and oils from your hands when you have it flipped open. Then, it transfers said dirt onto the screen of your iPad. I have to clean my iPad after it has been sitting overnight. The inside cover stains dark blue (from the original light blue), making it somewhat unsightly. I've tried washing it, but this helps only minimally, and the interior material is not durable for continued washing. The interior material should not be absorbent! This is my BIGGEST CRITIQUE and HEADACHE with this case. (and why I plan on replacing it soon)
3- Elastic Closure - To close the case, an elastic band stretches over the front. While mine has not broken, my band is showing signs of wear. There are 4 points where it connects to leather, making four locations where it can separate easily.
4- How it holds the iPad - A substantial piece holds the non-volume-button side of the iPad, and it stays out of the way of video while holding it securely. The other two corners have flimsy leather pieces that go over each corner. While my iPad has never hinted at falling out, one of the leather pieces covers the power button. Through constantly pushing this button over 3 months, this piece appears to be loosening. Over time, this piece will fail and the iPad may slip out of the case.
5- Weight - This case is heavy. I don't mind this that much, as I like that it protects my iPad. But, over time, holding the iPad gives you the "Gorilla Arm" Steve Jobs mentions as to why he won't make his Mac desktops/laptops have touch screens. The case is said to be 7.7 ounces, but this is incorrect. The weight is double this (around 1 pound), and it gets heavier the more things the interior absorbs.
6- Price - The case is overpriced. However, when it comes to protecting your $500 to $830 investment, an extra $20 to $30 is a minimal expense.
(Note: Only issues 5 and 6 were recognized when I originally purchased this case. The other 4 "Cons" developed through normal use. And, I tend to baby my electronics...)
The absorbent material on the inside of the case is both a pleasure initially and a curse as time wears on. If it was not absorbent, picking up dirt (including natural body oils), discoloring and transmitting said dirt to the screen of my iPad, I would likely continue to use this case for a longer time. It has a lot of promise, despite being heavy.
